Town Councillor for Crowborough South-East
  • Town Councillors

Richard has lived in Crowborough for over 25 years and considers it his home town. He was educated at Beacon before the University of Kent and currently works for a small accountancy firm in the town centre.
He has been a Town Councillor since 2016 and Chairman of the Planning and Development Committee since last year. He also sits on both the Environment Committee as Deputy Chairman and the Sports, Recreation and Cemetery Committee. In addition he is a member of the working-group established to replace the ageing Pavilion at the Wolfe Recreation Ground.

He will press for this replacement Pavilion to be completed before the end of the next electoral cycle, once the major issues of design and finance for the project are resolved.

Business Hub

With work to create a new Business Centre and Town Hall at Pine Grove almost complete, the opening of the new Cemetery at Summersales is the other major project the Town Council must complete as soon as practical. On a smaller scale, but no less important, the maintenance of good-quality equipment and facilities at the town’s parks and recreation grounds will be a personal priority.

Town’s priorities

In my role as deputy Chairman of the Environment Committee I also chair the three-monthly Strengthening Local Relationships meeting held with representatives of East Sussex County Council.

In these we raise issues of importance to Crowborough that fall within the responsibilities of the county council to resolve. These often relate to highways, not just potholes and yellow lines but also road-safety issues. In this capacity I will continue to press for the new Pine Grove crossing to be installed as soon as possible, and to get the Zebra crossing a Jarvis Brook upgraded.

I firmly believe the retention of free car parking in the town centre is vital to its future and I will continue to support Conservative-led Wealden District Council’s policy to retain that free parking. I will also support additional car parking spaces next to the Bluebell Wood.
