Sussex Weald Conservatives launch petition over Gatwick's second runway

Residents are asked to support Sussex Weald Conservatives' concerns over Gatwick's second runway which has now received approval from the Labour Secretary of State.

The announcement of the Labour Government giving the go-ahead for a second runway at Gatwick will produce differing views often depending on where residents live and how they will be affected by the noise and pollution.

100,000 extra flights a year is a significant number and whilst the Minister states she has been assured by promises of noise mitigation and more passengers using public transport to get to the airport it remains to be seen whether these are delivered.

It is important that certain conditions are met at an early stage

1.     A ban on night flights from 23.00 to 06.00

2.    Flight paths that minimise noise levels over residential areas.

3.    Protection from nitrogen deposits for the High Weald National Landscape, including the Ashdown Forest and Bewl Water.

4.    Protection for areas with Dark Sky policies

5.    Direct and more frequent train services from East Sussex to Gatwick

Sussex Weald Conservatives will continue to hold Gatwick to account and will need to see strong evidence to support that those conditions are being met.
