Nusrat Ghani, the Conservative MP for Sussex Weald, was pleased to learn that thanks to a grant secured from Veolia, construction of Phase 2 of the Get Active Pathway (GAP) Project on Horam Recreation Ground can now begin.
Nusrat has been extensively involved in working with Horam Village Hall Trustees and supporting the delivery of the GAP Project from the very beginning. She is proud to have helped deliver the new, all-weather, pathway around the perimeter of the upper part of the recreation ground and since its completion and official opening in 2023, Nusrat has been supporting Horam Village Hall Trustees in securing further expansions to the facility.
Phase 2, which involves the construction of a BMX Pump Track, has now been fully funded thanks to a generous support from a Crowdfunding campaign and a nearly £50,000 contribution from Veolia Environmental Trust. Its construction can now begin, with the aim for completion before the end of the year. The track's design is inclusive, accommodating various skill levels and abilities, and the project prioritises environmental sustainability by using existing soil from previous projects and sourcing aggregates from local quarries.
Nusrat Ghani said: “I was delighted to work with Horam Village Hall Trustees and secure the delivery of Phase 1 of the GAP project, which unlocked new exercise opportunities for all communities in Horam and especially, enabling those with mobility issues to have better access to exercise all year round. I continue working with the Trustees to secure further expansions to the project and I'm pleased that thanks to this vital funding, the construction of Phase 2 can now begin. The BMX Pump Track will play a key role in helping to get local children outdoors and allow them to move around freely and safely in a secure local space.”
