Wealden's Conservative MP, Nus Ghani said she was delighted to join Horam residents in celebration of the completion of Phase 1 of the new Get Active Pathway and cut the ribbon to mark its official opening.
The project is a 1km long all-weather exercise path around the perimeter of the recreation ground, which can be used all year round for exercising.
Before the installation, Horam Recreation Ground was waterlogged for most of the year. This new path will allow visitors to enjoy the recreation ground in any weather throughout the year, increasing opportunities for physical activities such as cycling, scooting, walking and enabling those with mobility issues to have better access to exercise.
Over the past two years, Nus has been extensively involved in supporting Horam Village Hall Trustees in raising funds for the construction and has previously convened several meetings with Wealden District Council councillors and leaders to secure the go ahead for the project. She was joined at the opening by Conservative county councillor Gerard Fox and local campaigner Susan Stedman.
Nusrat Ghani said: “Health, leisure and sport facilities play a key role in building resilience and wellbeing in our communities.
"This new, eco-friendly pathway will make the recreation grounds accessible to all users all year round, providing great opportunities to walkers, runners and mobility scooter users who struggle with the uneven and often muddy terrain of our countryside paths.
"This project is a fantastic result for Horam and I’m pleased to have supported its delivery.”
