Conservative Cllr Johanna Howell (Frant & Wadhurst) has helped to bring much-needed funding to assist her parish church with its renovations.
Cllr Howell said she was thrilled to attend the presentation of CIL monies to Wadhurst Parish Church from Wealden District Council.
CIL funds (Community Infrastructure Levy) are effectively a planning charge local authorities can place on new developments. The monies are then distributed to pay for essential infrastructure which will benefit the community and support the local area.
"It's vital to ensure that this CIL money is used in the most appropriate and beneficial way", says Cllr Howell. "We have a responsibility to future generations to preserve our ancient and historic buildings and I am delighted to see the church restoration boosted in this way as well as to contribute from my own small budget."
In addition, Cllr Howell has given part of her Ward Budget to the improvements being made to the church.
Major works
The £1-million project at the 12th-century St Peter and St Paul in Wadhurst will transform it into one of the Church of England's first net-zero carbon demonstration churches, featuring sustainable upgrades, enhanced accessibility, and historical restoration. The works include under-floor heating, solar panels and disabled access for the Grade I listed church.
The renovations are due to be completed by October when the formal opening will take place.
