Back in October we discovered through the media the Labour Government's plans to use the Crowborough Training Camp to house asylum seekers. Alongside our local MP, Nusrat Ghani, we have been opposing this decision alongside our local MP, Nusrat Ghani.
While our local MP stood up for our community and the Cadets from day one, Wealden District Council - led by a collation of Liberal Democrats and the Green Party- have failed to represent residents and fight for us. Despite the MP and community asking them to do so, and despite examples of other councils across the U.K. having taken legal action, to date WDC have not brought forward any legal action against the Home Office.
On 22 January the Home Office pressed ahead and we saw the first asylum seekers move into the site under the cover of darkness.
This issue is important not only to Crowborough residents, but across Sussex Weald.
Share your views so we can continue holding Wealden District Council to account and either us or Nusrat may be in contact in the future to update you on our campaigns.
